Get to know us

At The Mulberry House, we are not just a private space for gathering;
we are stewards of land that evokes a sense of serenity and personal transformation.

The Mulberry House is a private residential home curated to be a source of inspiration, peace, and connection to the more than human realm. As a third-generation home, this space has evolved into an urban farmstead and retreat-inspired space with an abundant garden, spa amenities, and a place to gather designed to connect you to the community and the Earth with a clay earthen floor.

Ideal for those looking for a staycation or to gather in community in a spacious, nurturing home in Sacramento’s suburban neighborhood near Carmichael.

Land Acknowledgment

The history of the Sacramento area, and the people, is rich in heritage, culture and tradition. This area was, and still is, the Tribal land of the Nisenan people. Sacramento was a gathering place for many local Tribes who have lived throughout the central valley and the foothills for generations and were the original stewards of this land. We would like to acknowledge the Southern Maidu people to the North, the Valley and Plains Miwok/ Me-Wuk Peoples to the south of the American River, and the Patwin Wintun Peoples to the west of the Sacramento River. We would also like to honor the Wilton Rancheria, the only federally recognized tribe in Sacramento County. We acknowledge that we are standing and living on the tribal lands of Sacramento’s Indigenous people.

Herstory of the land

While this land has cycled through many stewards, The Mulberry House’s current steward, Kelsey, has cultivated a relationship with this space for her entire life. What was once her Grandfather Adley Lowery’s home became a refuge for her Mom to raise Kelsey into the person she is today.

The home and this land held Kelsey as a baby, child, teenager, and adult, as she spent most of her free time in the backyard, communing with plants and animals and falling in love with the more-than-human realm.

In 2017, Kelsey returned to this home after nearly a decade of living in other parts of the world, including Santa Barbara, Ghana, Paraguay, and India. Since then, she and her partner, Drew, have become the stewards of this space and, in 2019, set the intention to transform the backyard into a retreat-inspired short-term rental space for people who share their personal values of living a life in tune with Mother Earth and nurturing their mind, body, and spirit.

Today, this one-acre home reminds people of how Mother Earth is with us; she is alive, communes with us, and loves us endlessly.
